Dr. Nashat Mansour
Dean, School of Arts & Sciences
Dr. Nashat Mansour was appointed Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences in August 2014.
Dr. Mansour is a Professor of Computer Science. His past academic engagements with the university include Instructor (in 1986), Assistant Professor (1992) , and Associate Professor (1997) of Computer Science. He was the founder of the Master’s degree program of Computer Science in 1992. He chaired the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics from 2005 to 2008. He also served as Assistant Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences from 2009 to 2012, and as Director of the Software Institute from 2001 to 2012.
In addition to his academic experience, Dr. Mansour serves as an advisor to the Lebanese Minister of Education and Higher Education, as president of the Arab Computer Society, and as member of the executive committee of the Lebanese Association for the Advancement of Science. He has served on national and regional advisory committees entrusted to develop strategies and policies for promoting research and development in computing and information technology. He is also the ICT national contact point for the EU’s Seventh Framework Program for Research (FP7).
Dr. Mansour’s research interests span the areas of search-based software engineering, protein structure prediction, gene-disease association, parallel computing, and application of metaheuristics and data mining to real-world problems. He has published more than 85 papers in international journals and conference proceedings and has obtained eight research grants.
Dr. Mansour earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1992 from Syracuse University in the United States, where he also received a Master of Science in Computer Engineering in 1990. His other degrees include a Master of Engineering Science and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of New South Wales in Australia.
