Ms. Nour Hajjar

Legal Counsel

Ms. Nour Hajjar joined LAU in 2014 as Legal Counsel of the university and the LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital (LAUMC-RH).

She is responsible for legal compliance issues in the United States and Lebanon, including all matters related to the operation and oversight of the university’s Board of Trustees and other governing bodies of LAUMC-RH.

Ms. Hajjar ensures that all university and medical center activities are in compliance with the LAU constitution, bylaws and applicable policies, along with the higher education and medical laws of the countries where both institutions are incorporated and operate.

Ms. Hajjar is also responsible for policy drafting, implementation and compliance for both institutions.

She provides legal supervision and support toward all major LAU initiatives, specifically in relation to real property purchases, affiliation agreements and grants between LAU and other educational and medical institutions in Lebanon and abroad.

She also provides legal guidance pertaining to the development of subsidiary identities, and all contractual agreements needed for LAU and LAUMC-RH operations, initiatives and growth.

Her position at LAU is a continuation of her impressive career as an attorney. She initially advised private corporations and non-profit organizations on sound corporate structuring and governance.

She then went on to work at Alem & Associates in Beirut, where she represented multinational, regional and local corporate entities in various fields of business.

That experience allowed her to greatly expand her knowledge of international law, as she represented businesses based on the governing laws of the countries where they were incorporated.

It also led to her being chosen as the Senior Legal Consultant for all entities of GroupMed Insurance Brokers in the Middle East and North Africa. There, she was in charge of the operations’ legal support, ensuring the compliance of each company’s activities particularly with statutory and regulatory requirements, as well as ensuring that decisions of the board of directors were implemented.

Ms. Hajjar holds an LL.B. and master’s degree in Private and Business Law from Université Saint Joseph in Beirut. She is an active volunteer with the Lebanese Red Cross, and worked in their Internal Affairs Department as Legal Director, where she was significantly involved in the revision of the LRC statutes. Ms. Hajjar is a member of the Beirut Bar.
