The film should tackle one of the following themes:

Theme 1

Human Rights Abuses as a Cause of Violent Conflict

Film Development Direction:

Film should illustrate the essential correlation between human rights abuses and violent conflict, with emphasis on political and economic rights such as violations of adequate food, housing, employment or exclusion from political decision-making processes. Scenarios may include one/or more of the following aspects: Violations of Political and Economic Rights as the Root Causes of Conflicts; Rights Denials and Exclusion; Security, Stability and Rights Enjoyment; Human Rights Monitoring; Conflict Prevention. Film should be related to situation in Lebanon and/or the Middle East and supported by real life examples.

Theme 2

Youth Responding to Human Rights Violations

Film Development Direction:

Film should demonstrate youth participation in protection and/or promotion of human rights; illustrate specific actions that are/could be undertaken in response to human rights abuses. Scenarios may include one/or more of the following aspects: Youth Collective/Individual Actions; Human Rights Advocacy and/or Monitoring Projects; Human Rights Education; Youth Empowerment and Capacity Building; Human Rights Youth Organizations; Supporting Victims of Human Rights Violations; Human Rights Youth Networking. Film should be related to situation in Lebanon and/or the Middle East and supported by real life examples.

Theme 3

Children’s Rights

Film Development Direction:

Film should raise awareness of children’s rights in accordance with the cross-cutting principles of the best interest of the child, non-discrimination and participation. The key social themes that affect children at national and at community level should be highlighted and connected to the rights recognized in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Scenarios may include one/or more of the following aspects: Child Soldiers and War Affected Children; Child Labor and Street Children; School Drop-Out and Denied Equal Access to Quality Education; Refugee and Internally Displaced Children; Child Abuse (physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and neglect); Lack of Participation and Expression; Discrimination and Disabilities; Children in Conflict with Law; Children in Prisons. Films should be related to situation in Lebanon and/or the Middle East and supported by real life examples.

Theme 4

Gender and Human Rights

Film Development Direction:

Films should raise awareness on women, gender and human rights. The theme development should be based on the international instruments such as the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, Beijing Platform for Action and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Scenarios may include one/or more of the following aspects: Gender Equality; Gender-Based Violence; Domestic Violence; Women and Armed Conflict; Unequal Access to Education; Internally Displaced/Refugee Women; Trafficking of Women; Discrimination in Political Participation; Discrimination in matters of Citizenship and Equality in Marriage; Cultural Values and Customs than Prevent Women from Developing their Potential (such as early or forced marriage); Economic Exploitation; Access to Labor Market. Films should be related to situation in Lebanon and/or the Middle East and supported by real life examples.
