Institute for Media Training and Research
IMTR Director
Yasmine Dabbous is an assistant professor of journalism and media studies and the director for the Institute of Media Training and Research at LAU.
Her research falls at the intersection between media and cultural studies, often –but not always– with a focus on the Middle East and Lebanon. Dabbous is particularly interested in cultural history and what media may tell us about past cultures.
Dabbous received her BA in Journalism from the Lebanese American University. She received the Hariri Foundation Award of Distinction and a scholarship to pursue her Masters in Communication Studies at Boston University. In 2006, Dabbous graduated with a PhD in mass media and public affairs from the Manship School of Communication at Louisiana State University.
Dabbous has over eight years of experience writing for newspapers and magazines in the Arab World, including the Daily Star newspaper and ArabAd magazine. She worked on freelance basis as researcher for, and scriptwriter of, short and feature documentaries. Between 2003 and 2006, she was a public relations consultant for Hill & Knowlton, both in Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. Her main client was Pepsico International.
