The Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) at the Lebanese American University invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of Women & Gender Studies at the professorial rank. Candidates must hold a Doctorate degree in a pertinent Social Science or other related field. Preferences are for candidates with interdisciplinary research specialty in Feminist Legal/Public Policy and/or Human Rights issues from a feminist decolonial perspective. Prospective applicants must demonstrate a commitment to foreground the intersectionality of gender/race/class and sexuality in the Arab/Muslim world.

The successful candidate will be housed in the IWSAW, and will be expected to teach core courses in the WGST program, namely (Theories of Gender and Global Feminism & Research methods in WGST). S/he is expected to participate in developing the research agenda and output of IWSAW, and to help promote gender mainstreaming at LAU.

The Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (http://iwsaw.lau.edu.lb) teaches about women and gender in regional, transnational, and global contexts from an intersectional perspective, one that is grounded in a social justice framework. It was established in 1973, and was the first academic institute for women studies of its kind in the entire Arab world. It publishes a pioneering double-blind, peer-reviewed English language academic journal (Al-Raida), and offers an MA in Women & Gender Studies, in addition to a number of undergraduate WGST courses as part of general university requirements. It is launching an MA in Women & Gender Studies as of Fall 2013.
