The School of Arts & Sciences at the Lebanese American University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Communication Arts, to begin in September 2015. The School operates on two campuses in Beirut and Byblos. The Chair is located in Beirut, reports to the Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences and is responsible for the management of the whole department, which includes faculty teaching in Communication Arts and a relatively large supporting staff.

Prospective applicants must be at the associate professor rank (or above); and must possess a Doctoral or Terminal degree in media, TV/Film,  journalism, or performing arts; and a strong record of academic leadership at a reputable institution of higher learning, scholarship and professional experience. S/he is expected to lead the Department’s efforts in developing and implementing four new BA programs in Cinematic Art (television, film), Corporate Communication, Journalism and Performing Arts. The ideal candidate should demonstrate leadership and communication skills, a record of administrative experience, in addition to teaching and research.

The Chairmanship is a 3-year term, renewable upon mutual satisfaction and with the support of the faculty. In the event of non-renewal of the Chair position, the candidate would return to the rank s/he is hired at; and teach the regular load at that rank. The Chair carries a 12 credit/year teaching load.

The Department of Communication Arts (http://sas.lau.edu.lb/communication-arts/programs/) is one of the seven departments of the School of Arts and Sciences (http://sas.lau.edu.lb/). It currently offers a BA in Communication Arts, the Department’s flagship program, which has three emphases: Journalism, Radio/TV/Film, and Theater. It houses an up-to-date television/film studio, two prominent and well-equipped theaters (Irwin and Gulbenkian) in Beirut and (Selina Kurban) in Byblos. The three offer venues for stage performances, concerts, dance shows, film screenings, theatre workshops, and special events. The department produces two major theatre productions every year and around 25 student productions.

LAU has two campuses, one in Beirut and the other in Byblos, about 35 kilometers north of Beirut.
