The School of Arts and Sciences at the Lebanese American University (LAU) is seeking applications for a full-time faculty position in Journalism/Media Studies at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank in the Department of Communication Arts. Candidates must hold a Doctorate degree in a media studies/journalism-related field, and must possess a strong record in teaching, research, scholarly activities, and community engagement. The successful candidate will teach courses in news writing and reporting, feature and magazine writing, newsroom production, multimedia, and Arab and international media. Professional experience in broadcast journalism and social media is an asset.

The Department of Communication Arts (http://sas.lau.edu.lb/communication-arts/programs/) is one of the seven departments of the School of Arts and Sciences (http://sas.lau.edu.lb/). It offers a BA in Communication Arts, the Department’s flagship program, which has three emphases: Journalism, TV/Film, and Theater. Available facilities include:

  1. Newsrooms, i.e. journalism-geared room where students can sharpen their writing, editing and layout skills.
  2. TV/Film studios providing all the tools necessary for audiovisual production in one place.
  3. The Department of Communication Arts houses two prominent and well-equipped theaters (Irwin and Gulbenkian) in Beirut and another (Salina Kurban) in Byblos. The three offer venues for stage performances, concerts, dance shows, film screenings, theatre workshops, special events, conferences, lectures and exams. These activities draw more than 20,000 people every year. The Department of Communication Arts produces two major theatre productions every year and around 25 student productions. It also collaborates with cultural centers and embassies to host plays and workshops from abroad.

LAU (http://www.lau.edu.lb) has two campuses, one in Beirut (Lebanon’s cosmopolitan capital and largest population hub) and the other in Byblos, about 35 kilometers north of Beirut.
