Position Summary:
The Department of Humanities at the Lebanese American University (LAU) invites applicants to apply for a visiting position in Philosophy beginning January 2017. The rank at which the successful applicant will be appointed will be commensurate with her/his current rank and qualifications. The areas of specialization and competence are open, but the department has a preference for candidates working on analytic philosophy, and needs someone capable of teaching in at least two of these areas: ethics, social and political philosophy, ancient philosophy, medieval philosophy, and the philosophy of science. Applicants are thus invited to highlight any teaching strengths in these areas.
Responsibilities:
- Teach general and specialized philosophy courses (six courses per year, three per semester)
- Oversee senior projects.
- Organize conferences and workshops.
- Engage in service to the department, the university, and the profession.
- Contribute to the development of the philosophy program.
- Additional duties may be set by the department in light of departmental needs and priorities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- A PhD in Philosophy from a recognized University.
- Evidence of an established research agenda.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstration of effective teaching methods and delivery.
- Evidence of success in securing external funding for research.

The Department of Humanities consists of 17 full-time faculty and a number of part-time faculty. The department offers a B.A. degree in Arabic Language and Literature, a B.A. in History, a B.A. in Philosophy, and a B.A. in Translation.
