Position Summary
The Department of Computer Science and Mathematics at the Lebanese American University, invites applications to a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of computational biology and/or bioinformatics starting Fall 2017. The department is seeking a highly qualified and motivated full-time faculty member who is committed to innovative teaching, research, academic advising and institutional service.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Bioinformatics and related fields
- Conduct research
- Oversee senior projects
- Advise and mentor students
- Engage in service to the department, the university and the profession
- Contribute to the development of the program, seek external research grants
- Additional duties may be set by the department in light of departmental needs and priorities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- An earned BS or an MS in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field, and a PhD in Bioinformatics.
- Applicants engaged in interdisciplinary research addressing computational biology, evolutionary genomics, and bioinformatics are of primary interest.
- Candidates should have a strong potential for excellence in research, and the ability to contribute to LAU’s graduate and undergraduate teaching mission.
- Evidence of scholarship and research
- Evidence of an established research agenda
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of successful university teaching
- Demonstration of effective teaching methods and delivery
- Evidence of success in securing external funding for research
The Department
The Department of Computer Science and Mathematics is one of the seven departments of the School of Arts and Sciences at LAU. It offers BS and MS degrees in Computer Science and a BS degree in Bioinformatics. The Lebanese American University also offers an MS in Molecular Biology and has state of the art Genomics and Proteomics labs. The Department is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research and is committed to student-centeredness.
