Image-makers and stylists are amongst fashion’s most powerful figures, creating aesthetics that transcend boundaries and influence popular culture at the highest level. This is especially important in a developing economy and the ability to create images that challenge expectations will direct the understanding of a new fashion aesthetic.

This intensive program takes students through the planning, coordination and technical aspects in creating cutting edge fashion imagery for menswear, womenswear and unisex garments. The candidate’s role is to engage with and nurture creative thinking through lectures, workshops and site specific photoshoots. All aspects of styling are covered with examples from leading photographers, stylists and image makers.

FAS383 Styling [3cr.]
The status of the stylist has shifted from a supportive role in fashion shoots to taking the helm of fashion publications and houses. This studio introduces students to the considerations required to make a successful stylist. This includes: the agenda of a shoot, whether concept of commercially driven, coordinating a hair and make-up team, set design, the model and photographer. An overview of magazines both online and print will be reviewed as a starting point to analyze types of content and features. Students learn through lectures, seminars, independent research and practical demonstrations.

Minimum Requirements: Fashion Styling or equivalent degree with teaching experience.

Duration of position: This position will open in summer 2016 (which starts in June 2016).

  1. Professional portfolio with examples of design projects (PDF, 15 pages maximum)
  2. Teaching portfolio with examples of syllabi and students’ work (PDF, 15 pages maximum)
