The Department of Fine Arts & Foundation Studies in the School of Architecture & Design at the Lebanese American University is now accepting applications for full time professor at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, for the academic year 2016-2017, to cross teach on both campuses, in Beirut and Byblos. The department is seeking faculty to teach history of art courses, in the Fine Arts program, as well as the Design Culture course in the Foundation Studies Program - a program common to all entering students in Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design and Fashion Design.
Applicants to this position should have prior experience in teaching, and would be required to teach the following courses: Art Appreciation - History of Art I – History of Art II – History of Modern Art, and Design Culture.
ART102 / Art Appreciation [3-0, 3 cr.] This introductory course provides students with a comprehensive overview of the visual arts. Based on the analysis of selective works by visual artists, the course focuses on the elements of composition, media, techniques, and the creators’ visual reasoning in selected periods of art history ranging from the Renaissance to Neo-Classism, Romanticism, Modern Art and Contemporary Art. It aims to examine the work of artists in their social context, encouraging students to develop an analytical and comprehensive approach to the visual arts.
ART331 / History of Art I [3-0, 3 cr.] This course is a survey of the visual art of the ancient Oriental, Classical, and Medieval Periods.
ART332 / History of Art II [3-0, 3 cr.] This course is a survey of the visual art of the Renaissance, Baroque, and Modern periods.
ART431 / Modern Art [3-0, 3 cr.] This course is a comprehensive examination of stylistic developments in visual art from the advent of impressionism to the present.
FND261 / Design Culture [3-0, 3 cr.] This course introduces students to the interrelationship between art and design, through the exploration of different contemporary topics. The first part of the course will be a survey of major artistic movements in the 20th century, and the second part will be a theoretical exploration of the cultural and aesthetic underpinnings of the various manifestations of contemporary design developments in the applied arts from spatial design to furniture, product, graphics, fashion and cinema.
Minimum Requirements: PhD in Art History / Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Art History with teaching experience may be considered.
Duration of position: This position will be open in FALL 2016, which starts in September 2016, and is renewed on a yearly basis according to university policies that apply to full time professors.
