Part-time Instructor, Design Culture (Beirut)
School of Architecture & Design
Department: Foundation Program
Date: Fall 2018
The Foundation Program in the School of Architecture & Design at the Lebanese American University is now accepting applications for a part-time faculty position for the academic year 2018–2019, for its Beirut campus. The department is seeking faculty to teach a theoretical course in the formative year — the Foundation Program, a common platform to all entering students in architecture, interior design, graphic design and fashion design.
Applicants to this position should have prior experience in teaching, and would be required to teach Design Culture. This course introduces students to the interrelationship between art and design, through the exploration of different contemporary topics. The first part of the course is a survey of major artistic movements in the 20th Century, and the second part is a theoretical exploration of the cultural and aesthetic underpinnings of the various manifestations of contemporary design developments in the applied arts from spatial design to furniture, product, graphics, fashion and cinema.
Minimum Requirements: a master’s degree in art history, any design discipline, or the visual arts, with teaching experience.
This position will be open in fall 2018, which starts in mid-August.
Application Process: Candidates should apply electronically by sending a letter of intent outlining their particular design pedagogy, a CV, a portfolio of student work and a portfolio of personal work, as well as examples of scholarly work: thesis research, papers, articles, and syllabi of courses taught. The application should be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org, specifying the job title in the subject line.
Application deadline: May 4, 2018
Notifications will be sent by: May 25, 2018
