The Department of Fine Arts & Foundation Studies in the School of Architecture & Design at the Lebanese American University is now accepting applications for the position of Adjunct Faculty, for the academic year 2016-17, for its Beirut Campus. The department is seeking faculty to teach Photography courses, in the Fine Arts program, as well as in the Foundation Studies Program - a program common to all entering students in Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design and Fashion Design.

Applicants to this position should have prior experience in teaching, and would be required to teach the following courses: Photography I, Photography II, Digital Photography I & Digital Photography II.

PHO211 Photography I [2-3, 3 cr.] This course examines how to see photographically by exploring the basic tools, techniques and aesthetics of 35mm black-and-white photography, with special emphasis on the creative use of camera controls, film exposure and development, printmaking and proper use of chemicals. The course is a combination of lectures, demonstrations, supervised lab work and critiques.

PHO212 Photography II [2-3, 3 cr.] This course examines the use of photography in the studio as an application of the medium to visual analysis, and presentation of that society. The digital medium format camera is introduced along with the DSLR & workflow software, including scanning, image manipulation and output. The course is a combination of lectures, demonstrations, supervised lab work and critiques.

PHO221 Digital Photography I [2-3, 3 cr.]  This course will offer a comprehensive introduction to digital photography, including the main components of the digital camera and their function. Technical skills for digital photography are covered post image capture processing, including refinement of exposure and digital manipulation. Topics include image editing software and various output options.

PHO222 Digital Photography II [2-3, 3 cr.]  This course goes into the basic physics of light and color, digital cameras and their components, digital images and their characteristics, handling digital pictures files in print and electronic forms.

Minimum Requirements: BS with 5 years teaching photography experience.

Remark: The adjunct faculty can pursue professional photography work but cannot teach in other institutions and the teaching load would be a max of 15 credits per year.

Duration of position: This position will be open in FALL 2016 which starts in September 2016, and is renewed on a yearly basis according to university policies that apply to Adjunct Faculty.
