CIE Lab Technician / Expert Technician

The Department of Civil Engineering has a vacancy for a Civil Engineering Lab Technician or Expert Technician (referred to as the technician). The Technician, who reports to the Chair of the Department, is responsible mainly for planning, supervising and performing a variety of tasks that would ensure proper operation of the civil engineering labs; namely, Materials Testing, Soil and Geotechnical, Water Resources Laboratory, GPS/GIS and Surveying, and Environmental and Water Quality Laboratories. The Civil Engineering Laboratories are primarily dedicated to CIE students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Setup and prepare the experiments for laboratory courses
- Maintain lab inventory of equipment and supplies
- Assist students in the lab component of their project work
- Assist faculty members in setting up experimental research facilities
- Perform commercial testing services
- Perform In-house maintenance of facilities including equipment, manuals, and other facilities
- Organize, schedule and supervise the various lab sessions, and other uses of the labs
- Assist supervisor in planning the development, replacement and maintenance of equipment and facilities
- Maintain the labs tidy and well organized
- Perform other lab work as per department’s needs
- Keep records of the course file storage in cabinets
- Perform other work pertinent to the job as per supervisor’s request
Position Requirements:
- TS in Civil Engineering or closely related field (or equivalent). Civil Engineering background is a plus
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Effective verbal and written English skills
- Effective organizational skills
- Ability to work proactively in a team environment
