The office of the Dean of Students (DOS) at LAU Byblos Campus is looking for a Counselor. The primary objective of the Counselor is to provide a broad range of high quality, innovative, and professional services that address the health-related, psychological, educational, social, and developmental needs of the students. Counselors are committed to working with outreach community services and departments to promote a healthy lifestyle that will support academic success and lead to an optimum level of wellness.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide assessments to students with psychological, mental health, social, & educational concerns with a focus on learning difficulties
- Analyze data such as interview notes and test results, in order to identify symptoms and diagnose the nature of students’ problems
- Counsel individuals, groups, or families of students to help them understand problems, define goals, and develop realistic action plans that are set in accordance with students’ interests, abilities, and needs
- Determine the eligibility of students with disabilities for services through intake assessment and/or review of documentation provided
- Ensure that students with disabilities receive reasonable and appropriate accommodations in order to have equal access to all University programs and services
- Ensure the referral of students & transmission of psychological information to outside professionals when needed
- Assist parents, staff, and students in locating appropriate long-term psychological/psychiatric off-campus services when need be
- Prepare treatment exercises and psychoeducational literature for students
- Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and students’ progress
- Participate in the initiation, implementation, assessment, and improvement of counseling programs/strategies to support student learning and development
- Ensure liaison and close collaboration between the students and relevant University departments and schools
- Keep up to date students’ counseling progress reports, including those received from off-campus resources
- Ensure the confidentiality of students’ records
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
- Holder of a Masters Degree in counseling, clinical psychology or appropriate degree with a focus on school counseling and learning difficulties
- At least 5 years of experience in counseling or school counseling with extensive knowledge of learning disabilities
- Ability to conduct intake or need assessments to determine appropriate disability accommodations
- Ability to build counseling relationships with students that will assist them in:
o Developing self-awareness,
o Identifying issues that impact academic success,
o Developing decision-making skills (set individual goals, generate and evaluate alternatives, and make informed decisions)
- Ability to initiate, implement, and assess counseling strategies, projects, and activities to promote student learning, retention, success and graduation
