The Riyad Nassar Library at Beirut Campus is currently searching for a Lead Library Assistant – Serials/Electronic Resources.
Position Summary:
The Lead Library Assistant – Serials/Electronic Resources is mainly responsible for assisting the Serials/Electronic Resources Librarian in all duties related to selecting, ordering, receiving, checking in periodicals and claiming missing issues, as well as helping in the assessment process of the electronic resources collection in the library.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists the Serials/Electronic Resources Librarian in cataloging and classification of periodicals and electronic resources, as well as in screening newly received periodicals.
- Operates the Library’s automated system.
- Follows up and claims for unreceived periodicals or those failing to arrive on time.
- Prepares periodicals for binding, receives bound ones and performs quality control checks on them.
- Verifies bibliographic citations and obtains price information for new orders.
- Responsible for proper shelving in the reading room and for the preservation of materials in periodicals stacks.
- Generates usage statistics for electronic resources and serials periodically and annually.
- Participates in providing bibliographic instruction and sessions on the use of online databases to students and faculty when needed.
- Trains and supervises student assistants.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities pertinent to the job as assigned or appropriate.
Qualifications:
- B.E., B.A. or B.S. or equivalent to Bachelor’s degree from a renowned university.
- At least two years of experience in a library environment.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Computer literate.
