The Outreach and Civic Engagement Unit has a vacancy for a Leadership and Civic Engagement Assistant Coordinator/Coordinator to be located in Beirut Campus.
Main Functions & Responsibilities:
- Assists in administering new student development programs at LAU that meld leadership and civic engagement to educate and involve students from both campuses in civic responsibility, community development and citizenship building projects throughout Lebanon.
- Acts as an advocate for student leadership and civic engagement in the community.
- Serves as a resource person for students interested in developing leadership skills and civic engagement opportunities.
- Publicizes and provides accessible opportunities for students to gain experience in the field of community outreach and civic engagement.
- Communicates the value of student involvement and the importance of community participation.
- Works with other institutional departments and programs to develop and sustain opportunities in civic engagement.
- Advises students as they pursue projects directed at addressing and solving public problems.
- Coordinates leadership and civic engagement programs and activities as designated by the Executive Director of Outreach and Civic Engagement, which may include leadership development workshops, certified programs, volunteer programs, philanthropic events, trainings, retreats, events and civic engagement activities.
- Assists in planning and coordinating civic engagement organizing efforts.
- Assists in fund raising activities to expand the civic engagement efforts at LAU.
- Assists in writing grant proposals to support civic engagement programs.
- Participates in assessing the impact of civic engagement initiatives at LAU through using quantitative and qualitative methodologies (surveys, focus groups, testimonials, etc…)
- Liaises with NGOs and Civil Society organizations across Lebanon in order to establish with them sustainable working relationships.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in a related field from a renowned university. Masters is a plus.
- Leadership skills with a minimum of 1 - 3 years of supervision experience.
- Demonstrated ability to self-start, meet deadlines and yet be part of a team working toward a common goal.
- Strong interest in civic and social justice issues.
- Knowledge of current events.
- Ability to work cooperatively and in a leadership role with students, staff, faculty, and community members.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic.
