Network Engineer

The IT Department has a vacancy for a Network Engineer reporting directly to the Director of IT Network, Telecom & Multimedia. The Network Engineer will be located in Beirut campus, with frequent commuting to Byblos campus is required. He/she is mainly responsible to implement and maintain LAU network infrastructure components used to support mission critical applications. He/She optimizes network performance, troubleshoots network problems and maintains high availability of network dependent services, ensures that proper Network security controls are being met and conducts research on the latest network technology and equipment.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Recommends network solutions for short, medium, and long range network projects
- Administers and documents the data network infrastructure, including LAN (Switches), WAN (routers), WLAN (access points), Internet (routers), Cloud and remote access.
- Administers the operation of Firewalls, WAF, Proxies and Intrusion Prevention Systems
- Maintains network traffic using caching, load balancing, shaping and DPI
- Administers campus network events, identifies network problems and applies problem-solving skills to resolve them, often under tight time constraints
- Work as a team member with other technical staff, such as systems to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems.
- Configure and support of SAN Networks including MDS switches
- Support both day to day troubleshooting and project related activities
- Utilize change control process in order to ensure compliance with the university’s data center and security standards
- Review network security events and take appropriate action based on LAU security policy
- Reviewing alerts escalated by Network monitoring tools.
- Perform analysis of log files. Includes forensic analysis of system resource access
- Work with IT to ensure proper Network security controls are identified, implemented and tested
- Conducts technical research on network upgrades and components to determine feasibility, time required, and compatibility with current system
- Works on multiple projects, meets deadlines and works well with other trades.
- Develops detailed requirements for upgrading existing university networks as well as re-architecting network segments in order to facilitate new requirements, technologies and growth.
- Maintains record of time and material used on a job.
- Performs other duties pertinent to the position as requested.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
- A holder of a B.E. degree in Computer, Communications or Telecom Engineering from a renowned University.
- 5-8 years of experience in CISCO Networking equipment
- Thorough understanding of the OSI network model, Ethernet and TCP/IP networking
- CISCO CCDP or CCNP in Routing/Switching or Security certifications.
- Strong understanding of firewall, Intrusion Prevention systems and Anti-malware technologies
- Hands-on experience installing and administrating network devices such as: CISCO switches, routers, Wireless Access Points, Firewalls.
- Experience with CISCO solutions such as PRIME, VOIP, UCM, Content sharing
- Knowledge of forensic tools , encryption techniques and PKI infrastructure
- Ability to troubleshoot complex application and network issues with a Network Analyzer
- Familiarity with use of a Ticketing System
- Ability to work varying hours and shifts including holidays, weekends and on-call 24 hours/day shifts on both campuses
- Good written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to document
