About RSS

What is it?

An RSS feed is a summary of recently added (or modified) content on a website.

Example: NetNewsWire Lite on Mac OS X.

Subscribing to RSS feeds allows you to get all the new content from several websites at once.

Some RSS feeds give you just headlines, with links to call up the full stories/pages in your browser. Others provide the same content as the websites they come from, so you don't even need to open the sites in a browser to read their latest content.

LAU’s feeds

LAU provides two RSS feeds: one offers the same contents as the announcements page, and the other delivers the last 15 official website changes. They are available at these locations:

(To subscribe to a feed you will likely need to copy its URL and paste it into your software.)

These materials, like the official LAU website, are maintained by the university’s Publications Office. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at ext. 1465 or email webmaster@lau.edu.lb.

Out of several RSS versions available today, LAU uses RSS 2.0. Make sure your software works with this standard.

How to subscribe to RSS feeds

There is an increasing number of RSS-reading software that you can download and install on your computer, internet-enabled phone or PDA. Examples for Macintosh and Windows are:

Some internet browsers, such as Firefox, are also capable of subscribing to RSS feeds in the form of “live bookmarks.” Safari, the Mac OS 10.4 browser, also has a built-in RSS reader.

There are also portal-style sites that pool all your feeds together on a single webpage that you personalize to your liking. Examples:
