Instructions for Using the Public Wireless Network

Before you start:

All users should have an 802.11b or 802.11g wireless card and a user ID and a password to use at a later stage:

• LAU faculty, staff and students will use their email username and password.
• Guests should come to the IT HelpDesk (X1000) on the ground floor of the Faculty Apartments building to get a username and password.

Step 1: Insert your wireless card.

Step 2: Set your SSID to “LAU”.

• Double click on “My Network Places” then click on “View network connections” on the left side menu.
  
  
• Right-click on your wireless network icon.
  
  
• Select “Properties”
  
  
• Select the “Wireless Networks” tab and click  “Add.”
  
  
• Enter “LAU” as the SSID (make sure to use capital letters);
  and uncheck the “Data encryption” box.
  
  

Step 3: Launch your browser and type in any URL. You will be pointed to the Wireless Network Home page.

To access the Internet, enter your username and password.

Step 4: Log out when you’re finished.
