Getting Started with RefWorks

Please follow these steps to create an account and start using RefWorks.

1. Go to the RefWorks starting page (http://www.refworks.com/refworks).
2. — If you are connecting from within LAU: you will be presented with a “RefWorks User Login” box. Go on to step 3.
   — If you are connecting from outside LAU: please enter the university’s group code under the “Remote Access” tab. The code is: RWLebAmU.
3. Select to “Sign up for an individual account” and identify yourself as a new user. You are able to choose your own logon name and password. We recommend using your professional email address in the space provided. The server in the U.S. will communicate with you through this address.
4. Access is immediate. Follow the instructions to start importing records and building your personal database.

Write-N-Cite Compatibility

Write-N-Cite is a utility that allows users to run an abbreviated version of RefWorks in their word processor. This version of RefWorks displays Author, Title, and Year Only, with a full view option available if needed. There is also a search function for easy navigation within users personal RefWorks database.

With Write-N-Cite, you can cite references in a manuscript with the click of a button. The abbreviated version can be set to “Always on top” so that it stays in place as you are typing your manuscript and generating your bibliography in Word. The utility installs a Write-N-Cite button on your desktop as well as an Add-in to your Word toolbar and a menu option under Tools for launching Write-N-Cite.

Write-N-Cite for Windows is compatible with the following applications:

• Microsoft Word 2000 and up
• Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP
• Internet Explorer 5.0 and up

Write-N-Cite for Macintosh is compatible with the following applications:

• Microsoft Word for Mac 98 and up
• Mac OS X version 10.3 or later
