Reserve Materials: Guidelines for Faculty

Guidelines for Faculty

In order for your materials to be processed and made available to your students at the start of the semester, please follow these guidelines:

  1. One request form must be submitted for each item you want on reserve:
    • with a complete citation filled out on the form
    • with your date needed by filled out on the form
    • with a photocopy of article or book chapter you are requesting (the Library does not photocopy)
  2. When making photocopies from which electronic reserves will be created, please photocopy one page at a time on A4 paper rather than two pages at a time.
  3. When submitting class notes, homework solutions, and so forth, please type or use an ink pen if the materials are destined for electronic reserves. Documents will be posted using the copy submitted, so please provide the best possible copy. In this case, the best practice is to use a Word document that can be edited and emailed as an attachment to mailto:eres@lau.edu.lb
  4. If you create your own PDF files for use by the reserve area, please scan the document at 100 dpi, one page at a time, without security restrictions. Materials will be posted as is, so please crop and edit to your satisfaction.
  5. When submitting chapters from books or articles from periodicals (journals, magazines or newspapers), it is necessary to bear in mind that LAU libraries abide by the “Fair Use” provisions of the Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17). Therefore it is illegal to publish or photocopy books/periodicals from cover to cover. Only one third of a book/periodical (i.e., up to 3 chapters from a book) can be either published online or photocopied.
  6. Materials may be submitted in paper format, or in an electronic format (Word, Excel, PDF, HTML) — either on diskette or as email attachments.
  7. Lengthy documents will be broken into smaller parts to minimize downloading and printing time.
  8. All requests are processed within 2 working days.
