Global Trends and Local Challenges Facing the Arab Family

The Doha International Institute for Family Studies & Development in collaboration with the Institute of Family and Entrepreneurial Business in the School of Business at the Lebanese American University would like to announce a call for papers on “Global Trends and Local Challenges facing the Arab Family.”

The objective of the colloquium is to strengthen the role and structure of the family in the region.

Topics selected will tackle broad themes covering not only the social, demographic and cultural aspects of the family but also the economic, biological and political ones.

The colloquium will be organized around the following broad themes:

Selected papers presented at the colloquium will be published in a themed hard-copy volume by the Doha International Institute of Family Studies & Development which retains the right of first refusal.

The Doha International Institute of Family Studies & Development is the official sponsor for this event and The Institute of Family and Entrepreneurial Business at LAU is the official organizer.

Detailed abstracts of 500 words with a paper outline should be sent electronically to Dr. Josiane Fahed-Sreih at jsreih@lau.edu.lb before April 30, 2008.

Announcement of accepted abstracts will be sent on May 15, 2008.

Papers to be presented at the colloquium may be prepared in languages other than English (especially Arabic and French).

The conference organizers will provide full funding towards airfare from the Arab world and partial funding towards airfare from other locations. In addition, accommodation, airport pickup, breakfast and lunches are fully covered.
