Dr. Bassel Al Khatib:

PhD – Industrial Economics & Management (Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague)
M.Sc. – Agricultural Sciences (AUB)

Working with UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) Since 2001.

2011 – Present: At UNIDO Headquarters in Vienna, managing projects in various countries in Africa and the Middle East on Agro-Food Industrial Development.

2009 – 2011: In Abuja, Nigeria acting as the Deputy Head of the UNIDO Regional Office in West Africa and leading and managing projects in West Africa on Agro-Industries Development.

2001 – 2009: In Lebanon mainly on food safety until 2006; then, on the “after war industrial rehabilitation programs”.

With UNIDO leading initiatives on Food Safety in Lebanon, played the role of the coordinator of the Food Safety Panel (2002 – 2007) that was mandated to draft the National Food Safety law.

Dr. Lara Nasreddine

PhD – Nutrition and Food Toxicology (Université de Bretagne Occidentale, France).
Chairperson of the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences, American University of Beirut.

Dr. Lara Nasreddine is an Associate Professor of Human Nutrition and the chairperson of the Department of Nutrition ad Food Sciences at the American University of Beirut (AUB). She earned her PhD degree in Nutrition and Food Toxicology from the “Université de Bretagne Occidentale” in France. Since joining AUB in 2007, she has been heavily involved in teaching, research and community service, while serving as the coordinator of the Nutrition and Dietetics undergraduate program. Dr. Nasreddine’s main research interests focus on two priorities in nutritional sciences, namely 1) obesity, with a focus on the pediatric population and 2) dietary assessment and the investigation of diet-disease relationships. She has more than thirty five publications in international peer-reviewed journals. She won the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers under the section on Health and Medical Sciences, specific theme: Healthy Nutrition, including dieting and obesity (2014) and won the Rebeiz Best Paper Award for the years 2011 and 2012.
