A remarkable and exhilarating triumph!

Chairman of LAU Board of Trustees, Dr. Paul F. Boulos, is elected to the National Academy of Engineering.

The President of the Lebanese American University, Dr. Joseph G. Jabbra, announced this morning with pride that Dr. Paul F. Boulos, chairman of the university’s Board of Trustees, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

Dr. Boulos, president and chief operating officer of Innovyze, a leading global innovator of wet infrastructure modeling and simulation software and technologies, was elected along with 66 Americans and 11 foreigners as members of the prestigious academy.

This great honor was announced on February 6, 2014 by the NAE Home Secretary, Thomas F. Budinger, who went on to praise Dr. Boulos for his distinguished contribution to “the theory and practice of computational hydraulics simulation technology for water infrastructure.”

“While I am truly honored and humbled by this great honor, it must be shared with my mentors and colleagues whose inspiration and support played a significant part in making these achievements possible,” Dr. Boulos declares. “It’s wonderful to know that my contributions to water infrastructure engineering — such a vital aspect of human life — are being recognized in this exceptional way,” he adds.

Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering research, practice or education, including where appropriate, significant contributions to engineering literature,” and to the “pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.”

Dr. Boulos, one of the world’s foremost experts on water resources and navigation engineering, is the author of nine authoritative books and more than 100 technical articles on issues critical to the water and wastewater industry. Today’s announcement adds to a series of national and international achievements and honors, the last of which was his election in September 2013 to the Board of Trustees of the Academy of Costal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE) of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

He also serves on the Boards of Directors of Innovyze, MWH Global (Broomfield, CO), America-Mideast Educational and Training Services, Inc./AMIDEAST (Washington, D.C.) and on the Dean’s International Council of the Harris School of Public Policy Studies at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Boulos was elected chairman of LAU Board of Trustees (BOT) in October 2012 after holding key leadership roles as a member of the Board since 2009. The university prides itself in that three of its BOT are today members of the NAE.  Former chairman Dr. Charles Elachi, director of the NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, was elected in 1989 and Dr. Ray Irani, former chairman and executive officer of Occidental petroleum, followed suit in 2012.

“This is a great honor for the LAU family,” declares Dr. Jabbra. “We are all delighted at Dr. Boulos’ landmark achievement and we salute his innumerable contributions to the field of engineering and technology for water infrastructure. We are proud that he is the first alumnus to chair our BOT and take this opportunity on behalf of all of us to wish him continued success in all his current and future endeavors.”
