Mr. Charles George Abou Rjeily
Assistant Vice President University Comptroller
Mr. Charles George Abou Rjeily was appointed to the role of Assistant Vice President University Comptroller in September 2009. He was previously the University Comptroller, a position he held since joining LAU in 2000.
In his role, Mr. Abou Rjeily oversees the University Comptroller’s Office, which is committed to supporting LAU’s mission by providing effective financial and accounting systems to monitor and regularly assess the financial position and internal controls of the institution. He also supervises the operations of the Business Offices at both Beirut and Byblos campuses.
By developing and implementing effective internal controls, the University Comptroller’s Office provides accurate financial data to LAU’s stakeholders, and ensures the financial integrity of the institution. The office participated actively in the implementation and the devising of many operating applications, such as the Banner and the Oracle Financial systems. Notably, the entire LAU student loan system was created in the University Comptroller’s office.
Mr. Abou Rjeily started his career in 1979 as an auditor in Lebanon. In 1986 he relocated to Dubai to join KPMG as a staff accountant and became Audit Manager in 1993. While at KPMG, he specialized in the audit of banks, advertising firms and NGOs. He was also vigorously involved in most of the major special investigation assignments undertaken by the firm.
In 1994, Mr. Abou Rjeily returned to Lebanon with KPMG as Senior Manager for audit, training and compliance, and handled the entire international portfolio of the firm. In June 1998, he joined Mobil Oil Lebanon as Finance Director with the mission of transforming the company’s administrative system into a state-of-the art automated environment.
Mr. Abou Rjeily has a license degree, with a Master’s equivalence, in Commercial Sciences from Université Saint-Esprit Kaslik.
