Dr. Said Elfakhani
Dean, School of Business

Dr. Said Elfakhani was appointed Dean of LAU’s School of Business for both the Byblos and the Beirut campuses in October 2011.
Dr. Elfakhani received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Accounting from the Lebanese University (1979), his Master of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Texas (UT) at Arlington (1984), and his M.S. (1987) and Ph.D. (1989) in Finance from UT at Dallas, Richardson, Texas.
He comes to LAU from Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU), Michigan, where he was Professor of Finance and held the Harvey Randall Wickes Endowed Chair in International Business.
Prior to his appointment at SVSU, Dr. Elfakhani was Associate Dean (2000–2007) and Professor of Finance at the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut (AUB). From 2000 to 2005, he served as Convener of the Accounting, Finance and Managerial Economics Track at AUB.
Between 2003 and 2007, he held various administrative positions at Dhofar University in Oman, serving as the University Academic Overseer, Acting President, and Overseer of the College of Commerce and Business Administration.
He has also held professional posts at UT Dallas and Indiana State University in the United States, the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Elfakhani has helped to steward several new universities in the Gulf, and has sat on numerous accreditation-related committees for regional universities.
He has won a host of teaching and academic leadership awards, has an extensive scholarly publication record, and has served as a guest or associate editor as well as a reviewer of major academic journals.
Dr. Elfakhani’s leadership background also includes managing family-owned businesses in Lebanon, operating real-estate projects, acting as a banking and investment project consultant in a number of countries, and offering a number of training programs on finance and investment topics.
