Position Summary:

The Performing Arts (PFA) BA within the Visual and Performing Arts Unit in CAL, aims to develop a new generation of performing arts graduates with a global perspective, professional knowledge, creativity, and research skills, all of which are necessary for the continued development of the performing arts and creative industries in Lebanon and abroad. The curriculum is interdisciplinary in character, providing students with both theoretical and practical training. Acting/Directing, Dance, and Music are the three distinct but intertwined course streams. The PFA BA’s ultimate purpose is to prepare graduates to be “creators” and “performers” for society. With this in mind, the department invites interested applicants to a non-tenure track visiting faculty position appointed on the basis of outstanding professional attainments, creative accomplishments, and recognition in a specific performing arts field.


Job Description:

During their stay, the artists-in-residence will be expected to work on a project as well as teach special topic courses. Artist Residents will introduce themselves to the students at the start of the semester with an informal presentation of their prior activities and works. The residency term will end with an exhibition centered on the presentation of the project proposal that was produced during the residency. The artist will present at least one of their works to be included in one of the LAU Festivals whenever possible.


Eligibility: The program is open to performing artists at any stage in their career, working in acting, directing, dance or music.

Language: Good English language skills are necessary.

The Department:

The Department of Communication, Arts and Languages (CAL) is a multidisciplinary entity at LAU encompassing the various branches of arts in the School of Arts and Sciences. This includes Literature, Language, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Communication (multimedia journalism and communication programs), and Humanities. It also hosts the Academic English Sequence that serves all students. The department adopts innovative education based, mainly, on Liberal Arts, and aims to promote the culture of learning which dovetails theory and practice, and enhances the culture of critical, analytical and creative thinking. It offers nine undergraduate BA degrees in addition to several minors in relevant disciplines.
