LAU alum Hussein Abbas won the Floyd Haar Endowed Memorial Research Award for 2008–2009, for his promising work towards developing therapy against leukemia cells. Abbas is completing his Ph.D. in cancer genetics at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The award is in memory of Freda Haar and acknowledges the recipient’s accomplishment as an independent scientist in the field of cancer genetics.
