Dr. Chadi Abou Rjeily, assistant professor of electrical engineering in LAU’s School of Engineering, was recently appointed associate editor of the Transactions on Communications journal, one of the most prestigious academic publications in the area of communication systems.
Published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Communications Society, the journal focuses on all telecommunications, including telephone, telegraphy, telecommunication error detection and correction, and communication theory.
His ascension to the editorial board marks the second such triumph for the SOE, which now houses two editors in distinguished academic journals. Abou Rjeily joins Dr. Samer Saab, professor and chairperson of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who is currently associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology journal.
“This is not only a great personal achievement for Dr. Abou Rjeily, but also a major feather in the department’s cap,” says Saab.

“Dr. Abou Rjeily’s recognition by the IEEE Society is evidence of his hard work and dedication to his profession; it should serve as an aspiration for hardworking faculty,” he adds.

After earning his Bachelor of Engineering degree in electrical engineering from the Lebanese University in 2002, Abou Rjeily completed his doctorate in communications from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications in France in 2006.

“This achievement is a significant recognition for the faculty and our school, especially since the department has two associate editors in major international technical journals — a first in the region,” says Dean of SOE Dr. Georges Nasr.
Member of IEEE since December 2005, Abou Rjeily also serves as a reviewer for several international journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Information Theory and IEEE Communications Letters.

“It is a milestone in an academic career to acquire such recognition from a reputable scientific society like IEEE,” says Abou Rjeily. “Realizing that my accomplished work is appreciated by experts in the field cannot be but a motivation for any professor to persevere in his work.”
