LAU rugby league team wins 4th national title
Immortals defeat Balamand 10–8.
LAU’s award-winning “Immortals” defeated the University of Balamand 10–8 in an epic final on a stormy December day, securing a fourth such championship for the university and becoming the undisputed kings of the Lebanese Rugby League.
Outstanding players—utility Ibrahim Ballout, fullback Jawad Fakih, stand-off Alex Marlow and player-coach Sami Halabi—brilliantly outmaneuvered Balamand’s tactical kicking with smart positional play, profitable returns and coolness under pressure.
LAU athletes also excelled in other areas during December 2005: The handball team beat AUB 29–22 in the Christmas Tournament; Chrystel Jalkh won table tennis tournaments at AUB and USJ, while Aida Hani finished second at the latter; and Wahib Maknieh and Nevine Kuzbari came out first and second, respectively, on the Byblos Campus’ Fall tennis tournament.
