Lebanese American University

Summer Institute for Intensive Arabic Language and Culture

Letter From the Director

As the Lebanese American University’s expertise in teaching Arabic as a foreign language enters a new decade, and following a series of summer program successes, I am pleased to announce the launching of our new Fall program at LAU’s flagship campus in Beirut, Lebanon. The first Fall program was launched on the 4th of September, 2007.

Since, over recent years SINARC has proved to be one of the best study-abroad programs in Arabic language and Middle Eastern culture, and we continue to forge ahead with this addition of a longer course of study that incorporates an even richer cultural experience.

The 15-week Fall program is designed to provide ample time for students to engage in further or more advanced language learning, and in fruitful local living experiences.

The program also includes in addition to the Modern Standard Arabic course, two extra courses: Middle East Challenges of the 21st Century (3 credits), and Arabic Language Writing Skills (3 credits), to complement the regular Intermediate and Advanced-level studies. The total number of credits (14) is transferable to home institutions.

SINARC’s expertise and presence in the heart of the Lebanese capital are two elements that blend into a memorable experience for all students. Previous participants coming from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Belgium, England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Italy, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Japan, Lebanon, Kuwait and Jordan, have been part of a remarkable ambiance of cultural exchange in tune with the cultures of Lebanon and the Middle East.

We are very excited to be undertaking such a challenge, and we hope the experience will be well worth it to all. We look forward to receiving your applications!
Mimi Milki Jeha, Ph.D.
