The Marketing and Communications Department (MarCom) at the Lebanese American University is seeking a Web Manager who will help with a variety of tasks focusing on website updates/improvements, project communications, documentation, evaluation and archiving. The position requires a proclivity for computing, web savvy, and the capacity to learn new technical skills quickly and independently. The Web Manager must become closely familiar with LAU’s presence on the web.
This position reports functionally to the Associate Director, and administratively to the Assistant Vice President for Marketing & Communications. The Web Manager will work in close collaboration with other members of the web team within MarCom.
Main Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Receives requests for website updates, channels them to a Web Developer, reviews the work for accuracy/quality and gets back to the requester.
- Helps the Associate Director find, research and evaluate server-side software (such as content management systems or jQuery libraries).
- Helps the Associate Director prepare training sessions related to: Movable Type/website maintenance (for owners of LAU websites), software/online tools (for MarCom staff), web design and coding (for MarCom web developers).
- Helps the Associate Director maintain functional documentation.
- Makes reports from Google Analytics, monthly and when they’re requested.
- Helps the Associate Director monitor keyword search for all official websites (using Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools).
- Downloads and archives materials from Google Docs and Basecamp when projects are completed.
- Helps organize and conduct usability tests and collect feedback about the website.
- Helps with renewal and maintenance of our accounts on external online services such as Issuu, Basecamp, Campaign Monitor, Shutterstock, Yousendit, Dropbox, Google Docs, Flickr.
- Helps the Associate Director keep track of hardware and software installed at MarCom. Updates lists, notes upgrades, and makes sure the web team has all needed software. Keeps track of newly released versions and alerts the web manager about them.
- Helps the Associate Director maintain a roster of freelancers in various competencies.
- Contributes to discussions about how to improve the website.
- Contributes to social media initiatives.
- Downloads and archives logs and backups from the remote servers every month.
- Supervises student assistants on certain tasks.
- Occasionally makes corrections or additions to the online calendars and certain other webpages.
- Manages certain web-related matters in the associate director’s absence.
Job Requirements:
The candidate is expected to have quite a high level of technology proficiency in relation to making websites.
The job requires intensive use the following tools: Mac OS, Google Docs, Basecamp, Transmit (SFTP client), Movable Type, Campaign Monitor, OmniGraffle, Google Analytics, Google Webmaster Tools, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc. The employee is expected to know at least some of these well. He/she will be given training as needed initially, but is expected to build on it by means of self-learning tools and practice on the job.
The minimum requirements are:
- A bachelor’s degree plus three or more years of relevant experience.
- Fluency in English as well as good writing skills.
- A clear understanding of how websites are made (web development languages, hosting, blogging platforms, image optimization, etc.).
