Director of SINARC Institute

This position is no longer open.

LAU is searching for a Director for its prestigious Intensive Arabic Language Program housed at the SINARC Institute (http://sinarc.lau.edu.lb/).  The Institute is a multi-faceted Arabic language and cultural immersion program that enrolls students from around the world. The Institute has quickly become a top choice for Arabic language learners looking to not only improve their language skills, but also to gain a true understanding of the cultural and social dynamics in the region.  The Director will be responsible for management of the Institute —including curriculum, hiring, transfer of credits, assessment, marketing and recruitment— and for teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language.  The Director will report to the VP for Student Development & Enrollment Management and, depending on qualifications, have a faculty contract within Arabic and the Humanities Department.  The Director will work closely with the Office of International Services (OIS) which handles all international exchanges and study abroad for both incoming and outgoing students.  With a state-of-the art Center in NYC and dozens of international university agreements, LAU is well poised to expand its Arabic language Institute in the region and abroad.

Currently, the Program is offered at two major University locations, one in Beirut and one in NYC:

Beirut:  Located on the Beirut Campus of LAU, the program offers Arabic language courses at various levels of proficiency during both semesters, the summer, and during a short winter break. Each level provides a number of hours per week of intensive classroom instruction, including Lebanese Dialect. Formal language instruction is enriched by immersion in an authentic cultural context. Cultural activities include weekly lectures on topics related to Arab and Lebanese politics, history and society. In addition, students partake in a series of excursions to historical, cultural and touristic sites throughout Lebanon.

New York:  Located at LAU’s NY Academic Center in midtown Manhattan, the program offers elementary, intermediate, and advanced Arabic language courses, and the Levantine dialect. Private courses for individuals or small groups with specific needs are offered as instruction for non-credit seeking students and participants.

Depending on the qualifications of the applicant, this position can be a faculty hire within the School of Arts & Sciences and could include teaching and other duties within Arabic as part of the Humanities Department.
