Part-Time Early Childhood Teacher

The Department of Education, School of Arts and Sciences, Lebanese American University, is seeking a part-time early childhood teacher for the Early Childhood Centre (ECC), located on the Beirut campus. Under the general direction of the Department of Education, and the Director of the ECC, the teacher will assume responsibility in providing the following tasks:

1. Knowledge and understanding of learning concepts relevant to early childhood education, especially 1- 4 years of age.

2. Plan, develop and implement and adapt curriculum/activities for all children: develop own curriculum maps and ideas for daily work and develop spaces and materials to support daily, weekly, and long term goals and need.

3. Flexible, experienced and knows how to adjust teaching approach based on individual children’s needs; use materials effectively; create a climate where children feel safe to learn and contribute and provide support and feedback to children.

4. Discuss identified problems and needs with professionals as appropriate

5.Enthusiastically participating in daily documentation displays, online journals, and photography in developing children’s portfolios.

6. Oversee classroom management on a daily basis; assume responsibility for children’s overall health and safety.

7. Develop strong, positive and productive relationships and partnership with families

8. Advise, support and provide an environment for academic growth and personal development for placement students

9. Working knowledge and understanding of the pre-college educational programs. Knowledge of the rules, regulations, and laws regarding student academic records.

10. Maintain student academic records and record-keeping reports for university students participating in the program

11. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned (may involve preparing for or attending conferences, workshops, trainings etc…)

4. Ability to teach early childhood age students children within all developmental areas of a child’s development

6. Ability to implement positive classroom management techniques with a group of 12-15 children

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in ECE, elementary education or in a related field

2. Must have at least 1 year full-time professional work experience working with young children as well as experience in the standard job description outlined above

3. Fluency in verbal and written English
