LAU’s Strategic Plan renewal has emerged from a university-wide, collaborative process that brought together multiple task forces to examine the realities of higher education and LAU’s evolving role in Lebanon and beyond.
This renewed direction is framed through the Kinetic LAU Strategy, a living and adaptive approach designed to keep LAU agile, future-ready, and able to drive change. Anchored in the foundations of SPIV, the strategy gains momentum through Pillar 5: Empower with Purpose, Agility and Sustainability, which strengthens feasibility, fiscal discipline, and operational execution to ensure ambitions translate into sustainable impact.
Below, the Strategic Plan is outlined through LAU’s strategic pillars and goals.
Pillar 1: Enhance LAU’s Scholarly Footprint and Visibility
Driven by its pursuit of research excellence, LAU embarks on a journey to lift the impact of its research and scholarly activities. In this pillar, LAU focuses on sharpening its research areas, enhancing the university reputation and visibility, promoting strategic interdisciplinary research, and improving university and subject rankings.
- Goal 1. Attract global talent: Recruit and affiliate with accomplished scholars to enhance our visibility and global footprint.
- Goal 2. Improve research impact and capacity: Develop long-term research strategies and initiatives to improve LAU’s research quality and impact.
- Goal 3. Foster collaborative research and partnerships: Recognize FT faculty research collaboration with international scholars.
- Goal 4. Develop and offer strategic PhD programs: Develop scholars who are well-equipped to undertake research through strategic PhD programs in LAU’s areas of strength.
- Goal 5. Enhance research infrastructure: Improve research infrastructure and resources available to faculty to conduct innovative and impactful research.
- Goal R1. Elevate Research Excellence and Interdisciplinary Impact: Increase sustainability research output, and advance science-supported sustainability policy development.
- Goal R2. Strengthen interdisciplinary research initiatives focusing on four cross-cutting research & innovation themes: Climate Resilience & Sustainable Infrastructure; Digital Health & Biotech; AI & Digital Transformation; Sustainable Materials & Green Chemistry.
- Goal R3. Establish and equip Core Labs to advance LAU’s applied research capacity: Build research capacity, ensure effective use through clear policies and streamlined access systems, and drive innovation with long-term partnerships.
Pillar 2: Educate for Impact
Guided by the urgency to prepare our students for the rapid global transformations resulting from the fourth industrial revolution and numerous political issues as presented by the UN SDGs, LAU shall continuously assess and improve its programs starting with the LAU Insignia up to all the existing programs while proposing new ones (undergraduate, graduate, in-person, hybrid, and online).
- Goal 1. Students: Educate for Impact will ensure that our students are specialists in their disciplines, cultured, enterprising and agile thinkers.
- Goal 2. Faculty: Educate for Impact will acknowledge, celebrate, and promote a synergetic culture of teaching and research excellence.
- Goal 3. Internationalization: Educate for Impact will increase strategic partnerships with international academic institutions to provide LAU students with more exchange and study abroad opportunities.
- Goal 4. Innovation for Entrepreneurship: Educate for Impact will instill a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Goal 5. Academic Systems as Facilitators: Educate for Impact will foster meaningful academic partnerships between all the stakeholders.
- Goal R1. Deliver Sustainability Driven Curricula: Standardize sustainability integration in programs, introduce “living laboratory” for experiential learning, and engage alumni experts as strategic partners.
Pillar 3: Innovate to Inspire
Driven by the continuous change in the way our students learn and the implications for teaching, LAU shall build a culture that promotes innovative approaches to education; incentivizes educators to embrace disruptive thinking; and inspires students to become future leaders of innovation.
- Goal 1. Establish a culture of Innovation: Establish a university-wide culture that enables innovative thinking.
- Goal 2. Promote student engagement for impactful learning: Increase the level of involvement for students in shaping the learning process and provide broad student-engaging activities and opportunities.
- Goal 3. Ensure teacher preparedness to engage in valiant and innovative education: Engage all LAU faculty members with some pedagogical training, which should lead to an improved overall learning experience at LAU while enabling most of our faculty to innovate in their teaching and learning practices.
- Goal 4. Secure institutional support to enable advancing pedagogical innovation: Provide sufficient talent, equipment, and support to enable LAU faculty in advancing pedagogical innovation.
- Goal R1. Consolidate and expand entrepreneurship programs: Map, evaluate, and benchmark internal entrepreneurship activities, and integrate entrepreneurship across curricula.
Pillar 4: Advance and Educate Beyond Boundaries
Driven by the current crisis and the fact that LAU is becoming a large institution relative to our shrinking local economy, the University shall establish a meaningful and sustainable presence beyond the Lebanese borders through offering distance education options, creating branch campuses, and cooperating with partner institutions in host countries. LAU will also seek to solidify its external relationships in particular with large local and regional businesses through the LAU Industrial Hub and a business-to-business approach that will improve student recruitment and job placement, as well as enhance the University’s continuing education arm.
- Goal 1. Establish physical presence in different countries in the MENA region and restructure the LAU NYC.
- Goal 2. Expand the consulting services of LAU in higher education, healthcare, and businesses.
- Goal 3. Establish an Industrial Hub at LAU that fosters innovation, industry-university collaboration to advance use-inspired R&D with the aim of producing sellable products and services.
- Goal 4. Expand the Academy of Continuing Education (ACE) arm to cater to a wider public locally and internationally with innovative programs/certificates and courses.
- Goal 5. Improve internship and job placement opportunities for LAU students by enhancing local and international relationships and cooperation agreements with relevant entities.
- Goal R1. Diversify global enrollment and pathways: Develop an Integrated Enrollment Management Plan.
- Goal R2. Mobilize alumni and diaspora networks: Develop post-graduation services to engage alumni and diaspora, and enhance LAU’s brand through marketing, outreach, and investments in branding.
- Goal R3. Expand LAU’s global presence through diaspora-linked academic gateways and hybrid learning hubs: Conducting readiness scans and feasibility studies, launching pilot hybrid learning hubs across the GCC, West Africa, and Latin America, and establishing a mechanism to pursue emerging international expansion opportunities.

Position LAU as the leading provider of high-quality online and hybrid education in the MENA region and among Lebanese communities worldwide, while expanding competitiveness in US and global markets through differentiated programs and strategic partnerships: Enhance LAU’s online education by expanding academic offerings, boosting program marketing, forging industry and academic partnerships, and advancing hybrid learning through integrated global campus initiatives.
- Goal R5. Strengthen community outreach and mobile health: Engaging alumni, informing and educating the community, and elevating visibility through a comprehensive sustainability communication and outreach strategy.
- Goal R6. Develop strategic external partnerships with industry, government, and international collaborators aligned with LAU’s research priorities: Expanding partnership opportunities, hosting engagement forums, developing joint research and innovation centers, and integrating government and public sector partnerships.
Pillar 5: Strategic Accelerator: Empower with Purpose, Agility & Sustainability
Driven by the imperative to strengthen institutional resilience and enhance our capacity to navigate an increasingly complex operating environment, the University will embark on a transformative journey to strengthen its financial foundations, accelerate digital modernization, and elevate operational excellence. Through bold advancements in data-driven governance, unified digital ecosystems, and sustainable infrastructure, LAU will reimagine how it serves its students, empowers its workforce, and stewards its resources. By fostering transparent communication, nurturing talent, and championing environmental leadership, the University positions itself not only to adapt, but to thrive—expanding its impact and shaping a future defined by purpose, agility, and enduring excellence.

Fortify financial sustainability and resource diversification: Modernizing budgeting, expanding training, enhancing reporting, unifying policies, reducing overhead, launching strategic fundraising, and commercializing lab services to diversify revenue and improve institutional efficiency.
- Goal R2. Accelerate digital transformation and data-driven governance: Modernizing IT infrastructure, unifying and automating digital platforms, strengthening data‑driven budgeting, and building a comprehensive sustainability database to enhance efficiency, decision‑making, and the overall student and institutional experience.
- Goal R3. Streamline operations and shared-services excellence: Strengthening procurement transparency, broadening supplier engagement, modernizing event management through centralized digital systems, and enhancing student experience by streamlining and unifying services for greater efficiency, responsiveness, and institutional resilience.
- Goal R4. Champion sustainable infrastructure and environmental stewardship: Optimizing space use, advancing maintenance and energy systems, strengthening safety, and significantly reducing emissions, energy, water, and waste to achieve ambitious environmental and operational efficiency targets.
- Goal R5. Cultivate workforce well-being, training and talent agility: Digitizing and streamlining HR processes to support efficiency and engagement, and strengthening continuous development, well-being, and strategic workforce planning.

Ensure transparent communications and policy oversight: Strengthening policy governance, enhancing institutional communication through clear and timely channels, and modernizing LAU’s digital presence with improved platforms and content oversight to ensure transparency, accessibility, and strategic impact.
