The Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World at the Lebanese American University is currently searching for an Assistant Director to be located in Beirut Campus.
Job Summary:
The Assistant Director is responsible for: Supervising day-to-day IWSAW projects (academic and development programs), personnel, and operations; coordinating and supervising the publication of Al-Raida journal as well as all IWSAW’s publications; assisting the Director in planning and implementing special events, seminars, and conferences related to the mission of IWSAW and in all administrative duties; supervising the handling of all related internal accounts; initiating ideas for projects, seeking funding, and overseeing proposal writing.
Basic Responsibilities:
- Supervises day-to-day IWSAW activities and personnel.
- Supervises IWSAW projects and publications: Oversees the overall production/printing process of all IWSAW publications including Al-Raida Journal.
- Assists the Director in supervising the M.A. in Women and Gender Studies program.
- Supervises all training of trainer workshops and their execution.
- Follows up on the implementation of all IWSAW projects, on the progress reports, and assessment of results.
- Supervises the planning, organizing, and conducting of workshops, seminars, regional and international conferences; special events such as the International Women’s Day, exhibits, film festivals, and launching of special programs.
- Assists the Director in contacting and identifying key people in Ministries, UN agencies, NGOs, Women’s organizations in Lebanon and the Arab world.
- Initiates ideas for projects and seeks potential funders for them.
- Oversees proposal writing as well as all IWSAW’s narrative and financial reports.
- Assists in all internal accounts related to IWSAW’s projects and publications.
- Represents IWSAW in workshops and conferences as requested by the Director.
- Represents IWSAW as a consultant on women and gender programs.
- Follows up on the implementation of IWSAW’s strategic plan.
Minimum Qualifications:
The Assistant Director should have:
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in the field of women and gender studies.
- A Masters degree in Gender Studies or equivalent from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, especially with respect to implementing IWSAW academic and development projects.
- A solid knowledge of the status of women in the Arab countries, expertise in social work and gender-related research.
- Excellent reading and writing skills (Arabic and English).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Strong organization and management skills.
- Computer proficiency.
