The Outreach and Civic Engagement Office (OCE) is currently looking for a Coordinator of Civic Engagement to be located at Beirut Campus, but periodic commuting to Byblos Campus is required.
Main Functions & Responsibilities:
- Administers new student development civic engagement programs that educate and involve students from both campuses in civic responsibility, community development and citizenship building projects throughout Lebanon
- Coordinates the yearly held NGO fair at LAU and makes sure that it achieves its objectives
- Activates the LAU NGO application and establishes viable, useful and sustainable relationships and projects with the NGO community based on a set of clearly delineated objectives
- Acts as an advocate for student civic engagement in the community
- Assists students interested in civic engagement opportunities and community development projects in achieving their goals
- Publicizes and provides accessible opportunities for students to gain experience in the field of community outreach and civic engagement
- Promotes and advocates the value of student involvement and the importance of community participation
- Collaborates with other institutional departments and programs to develop and sustain opportunities in civic engagement
- Advises students as they pursue projects directed at addressing and solving public problems.
- Mobilizes LAU students to participate in meaningful civic engagement activities and programs.
- Coordinates civic engagement programs as designated by the AVP for Outreach and Civic Engagement such as certified programs, volunteer programs, philanthropic events, trainings, retreats, events and civic engagement activities
- Participates in planning and coordinating civic engagement organizing efforts
- Actively participates in fund raising activities to expand the civic engagement efforts at LAU
- Assesses the impact of civic engagement initiatives at LAU through using quantitative and qualitative methodologies (surveys, focus groups, testimonials, etc…)
- Liaises with NGOs and Civil Society organizations across Lebanon in order to establish with them sustainable working relationships
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in a related field from a renowned university. Masters is a plus
- Strong leadership and civic engagement skills
- 1-3 years of work experience
- Demonstrated ability to self-start, meet deadlines and yet be part of a team working toward a common goal
- Strong interest in civic and social justice issues
- Thorough knowledge of current events
- Proven experience to work cooperatively and in a leadership role with students, staff, faculty, and community members
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic
