Update on Classes, Exams, Teaching Arrangements (for faculty)

Dear Faculty,

I hope this message finds you and your families safe.

As we navigate these difficult and unpredictable circumstances, the University continues to monitor developments closely and assess their impact on our community. The safety and wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff remains our highest priority. At the same time, we remain committed to supporting teaching and learning in ways that are responsive, flexible, and attentive to the varied circumstances members of our community may be facing.

Our goal is to maintain academic continuity and safeguard the progress of the semester while recognizing that students and faculty may be experiencing different personal and logistical challenges. Your flexibility, understanding, and continued engagement will be essential in supporting our students during this period.

After careful consideration of the current situation, the following academic measures will be implemented:
No educational activities will take place on Tuesday, March 3.
No exams will be held this week (March 3-7).
Lecture-type courses are expected to move online starting Wednesday, March 4. Final confirmation will be communicated on Tuesday, March 3.

Further instructions and school-specific guidance will be communicated by your deans, so please check your email regularly for updates.

Faculty are encouraged to exercise reasonable flexibility in attendance, deadlines, and assessment methods to support students affected by the current circumstances.

Faculty members who need assistance preparing or delivering online instruction may contact the Center for Innovative Learning (CIL) at cil@lau.edu.lb. CIL will offer online training sessions (please check your email for announcements), and CIL Faculty Fellows in each school are available for peer support (complete list available at https://cil.lau.edu.lb). Technical assistance is also available through IT Support at helpdesk@lau.edu.lb.

In challenging times, our strength as a community lies in our care for one another. Thank you for your cooperation, professionalism, and continued commitment to our students and our mission.

Further updates will be shared as needed.

Stay safe and take care.

Sincerely,
George E. Nasr
