Assistant Vice President, Budgets & Financial Planning
The Lebanese American University is looking for an Assistant Vice President, Budgets & Financial Planning, reporting to the Vice President for Finance / Chief Financial Officer.Role Summary
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) serves as a senior leader responsible for enterprise‑wide budgeting, multi‑year financial planning, and performance management for the University and its affiliated medical centers. Reporting to the Vice President for Finance/CFO, the AVP plays a critical and strategic role in supporting institutional sustainability, advancing strategic priorities and strengthening financial governance.
The AVP provides executive‑level insights, leads integrated planning and financial consolidation across academic and healthcare entities, and partners closely with senior leadership to translate institutional and clinical strategies into actionable, data‑driven financial plans. The central role is essential to enhance financial discipline, improve forecasting accuracy, and support informed decision‑making through robust analytics, reporting, and modeling.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. Budgeting & Enterprise-Wide Financial Planning:
- Leads the annual budgeting cycle, including development of planning calendars, assumptions, templates, consolidation processes, and executive review materials
- Oversees the integrated budgeting process for academic units, administrative departments, and hospital operations, ensuring alignment with institutional strategy and financial objectives
- Ensures timely preparation and submission of budgets to the University Budget Committee (UBC), proper budget hearings, finalization with the President’s Cabinet, and presentation to the Board of Trustees
2. Medical Centers Financial Planning & Performance Management:
- Develops and oversees the medical centers and clinical financial planning models, including patient volume projections, clinical productivity metrics, reimbursement trends, and cost‑per‑service analyses
- Evaluates the medical centers’ operational and financial performance including service line profitability, cost‑center benchmarking, case‑mix and utilization analysis, and productivity KPIs
- Partners with the medical centers’ leadership to optimize resource allocation and strengthen financial sustainability
- Supports regulatory, accreditation and compliance‑related financial reporting for the healthcare portfolio
3. Forecasting, Modeling & Scenario Planning:
- Maintains rolling forecasts and multi‑year financial planning models
- Develops scenario and sensitivity analyses for both academic and healthcare operations
- Supports cost‑containment strategies, asset optimization and long-term financial sustainability
4. Analytics, Insights & Executive Reporting:
- Provides timely and actionable insights on key financial drivers, risks, and opportunities
- Produces and enhances financial reporting packages for the President, President’s Cabinet, and Board committees
- Establishes, monitors and refines enterprise KPIs and dashboards
5. Governance, Controls & Process Improvement:
- Strengthens financial planning processes, documentation standards, workflows, and internal controls
- Ensures compliance with the University’s financial policies, governance standards, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Leads improvements to planning systems and technologies, including Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) tools such as Hyperion
6. Leadership & Team Development:
- Leads, coaches, and develops a high‑performing budgeting and FP&A team
- Promotes analytical rigor, process excellence, and cross‑functional collaboration
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics Business Administration or related field
- Master’s degree (MBA, MS Finance/Accounting, MHA) and professional certification such as CPA/CMA or CFA are a plus
- Minimum 16 years of progressive financial planning and analysis experience, out of which at least 6 years in a managerial role, leading teams
- Strong modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills
- Experience with ERP/EPM systems (Oracle, SAP, Hyperion)
- Strong understanding of internal controls and financial governance
- Experience in hospital or healthcare financial management is a plus
- Proficiency with business intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
- Experience in leading financial transformation initiatives or major system implementations

Work Conditions
This position is primarily office‑based with occasional travel and extended hours during peak periods. The role requires the highest level of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
