Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to the project “Towards a Mathematical Model of Inflammation: TOMMI” at the Lebanese American University, Byblos Campus. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of applied mathematics and mathematical biology.
Responsibilities:
The post-doctoral researcher will coordinate and conduct mathematical analysis of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) of reaction-diffusion type and computational simulations using MATLAB and COMSOL multiphysics, and will play a pivotal role in coordination with the Principal Investigator for proper project implementation.
The successful applicant shall have excellent methodological and academic skills with strong organizational and communication skills. The postdoctoral researcher will work independently and in coordination with the Principal Investigator. Some of the responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:
- Conduct a literature review on present mathematical models of inflammation, pattern formation, free boundary models, and numerical modeling of inflammation.
- Develop a mathematical model describing the inflammation process using PDEs.
- Analyse the proposed model using the adequate mathematical tools.
- Interprete the results in terms of mathematics and biological insights and evaluate the impact of the results for the medical/biological communities.
- Develop computer codes to perform numerical simulations.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D.in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics.
- Excellent skills in mathematical modeling using PDEs.
- Excellent skills in the mathematical analysis of PDEs and numerical simulations.
- Interest in biology with a focus on the inflammation process and what it involves.
- Ability to communicate, present and expose the results in a written or oral form.
- English is the spoken and written language in the research project.
- Ability to communicate effectively especially with biologists or medical doctors.
- A previous experience in the field of mathematical modeling or mathematical biology is an added value to the application.
Application Instructions:
Interested candidates should submit the following application materials to gsr@lau.edu.lb:
- A cover letter detailing your research interests and relevant qualifications.
- Curriculum vitae (CV) including a list of publications.
- Contact information for three professional references.
- A statement of research accomplishments and future goals (max. 2 pages).
