Academic Ranking Officer
The Graduate Studies & Research Department is currently looking for an Academic Ranking Officer reporting to the Dean of Graduate Studies & Research. This is a central position that is primarily based on the Beirut campus with occasional commuting to the Byblos campus.Role Summary
The Academic Ranking Officer is responsible for coordinating all academic ranking matters at the University. S/he collaborates with various stakeholders, including faculty members, administrators, and external ranking organizations, to maintain and enhance the academic reputation of the University. S/he ensures that ranking related campaigns are executed in a timely manner and suggests improvements to processes that have an impact on rankings and ratings.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Implements set strategies improving the academic ranking of the institution to meet the university’s goals
- Serves as primary point of contact for ranking data gathering and submissions
- Coordinates data reporting requests by ranking agencies with various university schools and departments and collaborate with the provost’s office, school deans, department chairs, faculty and the Institutional Research & Assessment department
- Prepares comprehensive reports and presentations on ranking performance and conducts analysis of ranking status such as providing periodical gap reports
- Develops and maintains a centralized database of ranking-related information, including historical data, methodologies, and submission deadlines and provides data as requested. Identifies areas for improvement and suggests changes to processes and workflows that impact ranking
- Monitors evolving ranking methodologies, bibliometric tools (e.g., Scopus, Web of Science, SciVal), and emerging trends, providing strategic insights and recommendations
- Supports the Office of Research in analyzing research output and trends
- Collects, analyzes, and interprets data related to academic rankings and faculty performance, using various KPIs such as bibliometrics
- Maintains relationships with external ranking organizations
- Responds to queries and provides necessary information as requested
- Works in close collaboration with StratCom Department to develop digital media and other effective communication channels aimed at improving the reputation of the University in both academic and non-academic circles
- Maintains utmost confidentiality regarding the University’s plans and activities
- Handles the filing and organization of work materials
- Serves as a member or secretary on designated committees as assigned
- Acts as backup support for office staff as needed to ensure continuity of operations
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in a related field
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in a related capacity
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Data analysis and interpretation skills
- Familiarity with academic databases (e.g., Scopus, Web of Science), ranking platforms (e.g., QS, THE, etc…), and data visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Power BI)
- Ability to identify opportunities, analyze complex issues and problems, develop feasible solutions, and manage multiple concurrent projects from initiation to completion
- Ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines
- Knowledge of international university rankings and related business process improvement methodologies
