Benefits Accountant - Beirut
The Finance Operations Department / Payroll & Employee Financial Services Office is looking for a Benefits Accountant, reporting to the Employee Financial Services Manager.
This position is based on the Beirut campus.Role Summary
The Benefits Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial administration, reconciliation, and day-to-day operations related to employee benefits programs across the University for both teaching and non-teaching employees. S/he ensures accurate processing, monitoring, and reporting of employee benefit transactions including medical insurance, Life and LTD, retirement plans, end-of-service indemnities, educational assistance, leave-related benefits, staff allowances, and other employee-related financial programs.
S/he works closely with Human Resources- Compensation & Benefits, banks, third-party administrators, and Finance teams to administer the financial and payroll-related aspects of employee benefits while maintaining compliance with university policies and applicable regulations.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Supports the day-to-day financial processing of employee benefits programs for teaching and non-teaching employees. Assists in administering the financial and payroll-related aspects of the medical insurance, retirement plans, end-of-service indemnities, educational assistance, leave benefits, and employee allowances
- Processes, validates and reconciles employee benefits transactions, deductions, reimbursements, contributions, and related accounting entries
- Monitors employee eligibility and benefit-related changes in coordination with Human Resources, Compensation & Benefits Office
- Ensures timely processing and reconciliation of benefits invoices, claims, and provider payments
- Provides financial information regarding benefits and support to faculty, staff, and Human Resources as needed
- Supports month-end and year-end reconciliation of benefit-related payroll transactions
- Investigates and resolves discrepancies related to employee benefits and deductions when required
- Assists in preparing periodic reconciliations and reports related to employee benefits, deductions, and benefit-related liabilities
- Assists in monitoring benefit expenditures and identifying discrepancies or outstanding balances
- Supports preparation of financial schedules and supporting documents for audits and management reporting
- Assists in maintaining strong internal controls, organized and accurate financial records related to employee benefits administration, transactions and processes
- Assists in ensuring compliance with university policies, labor regulations, insurance requirements, and financial procedures
- Maintains accurate records and support documentation related to employee benefits financial transactions and maintains accurate employee benefit data within ERP and payroll systems
- Participates in process enhancement initiatives related to employee benefits and payroll operations
- Identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reporting accuracy, and service quality
- Provides backup support to the office staff when needed to ensure continuity of operations
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned by the direct supervisor
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Professional certification in accounting, payroll, HR, or employee benefits administration is a plus
- Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, payroll, employee benefits financial administration
- Experience within higher education or similarly structured organizations is an advantage
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, payroll platforms, and financial reporting tools
- Strong understanding of employee benefits administration and accounting principles
- Knowledge of payroll coordination, insurance administration, and employee financial transactions
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills
- High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Customer-service oriented with the ability to support employees effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
Work Schedule
This role follows a standard Monday–Friday work schedule with possible/occasional attendance after hours and/or during weekends/holidays to ensure business continuity and meet deadlines.
