Director of Capital Construction Management
The Facilities Management Department is currently looking for a Director of Capital Construction Management reporting to the Director of Project Management & Contract Administration. This position is based on the Beirut campus with regular commuting to LAU Medical Centers.Role Summary
The Director of Capital Construction Management is responsible for leading and overseeing capital construction and major renovation projects on the Beirut Campus and affiliated facilities. This role is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of projects from inception to completion—on time, within budget, and in compliance with institutional standards and international best practices. The position also contributes to long-term planning initiatives, including Campus Master Plans and Capital Development Strategies.
The director supervises the roles of Construction Manager and Work Control Unit Administrator, PMCA.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Leads the planning, design, procurement, project management and execution of capital construction and the procurement and contract administration of renovation projects and other FM-related tasks
- Manages the work of consultants, contractors, and internal projects’ teams to ensure quality, safety, and schedule compliance
- Develops and implements project governance frameworks, policies, and performance metrics
- Manages tendering processes, contract administration, and management of claims/variations
- Monitors project budgets, payment certificates, financial reporting, and cost control measures
- Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies
- Supports risk management, audits, and reporting processes
- Oversees real estate and property insurance matters related to university facilities
- Contributes to strategic initiatives, including Campus Master Plans and Expansion Projects, Capital Plans and Capital Budget
- Oversees healthcare-related construction projects (LAUMC), as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Facilities Management
- Provides operational guidance to the team by setting clear goals, expectations, and priorities; tracks progress and maintains a service-oriented, high-performance environment
- Fosters a collaborative, cooperative, and respectful team culture that prioritizes accountability, continuous improvement, and staff success
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned by the direct supervisor
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Civil Engineering or a related field; an ME is a plus
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in construction and project management with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles managing complex projects
- Proven experience working with major consultancy and contracting firms
- Experience in academic and healthcare projects is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of FIDIC contracts and contract administration
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 and AutoCAD
- Good understanding of Lebanese construction laws, permits, and cadastral processes
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- High-level problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
- Strong organizational and reporting skills
- Fluency in English and Arabic; French is a plus
Work Schedule
The role follows a standard Monday-Friday work schedule. However, due to the managerial responsibilities associated with this role, flexibility is required. The position may occasionally require availability beyond regular working hours, on weekends/holidays to support operational needs, ensure business continuity, and meet critical deadlines.
