Engineering Computer Center Manager
The School of Engineering is currently looking for an Engineering Computer Center Manager reporting to the Dean. This is a central position that is based on Byblos campus with occasional commuting to Beirut campus.Role Summary
The Engineering Computer Center Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of all computer centers, labs and associated servers within the School of Engineering (SOE). This role ensures the efficient allocation and utilization of resources, maintains high availability of systems, and supports the technological evolving needs of students and faculty.
Work Schedule
The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM except when the Computer Centers are being used on weekends or holidays, with possible/ occasional attendance after hours to ensure adequate coverage during exam periods and/or to perform upgrades and maintenance and/or to provide backup during staff absences within the unit on both campuses.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists the Dean’s office in developing and implementing strategic plans for the SOE Computer Labs Management Unit
- Identifies opportunities for innovation and improvement in lab operations
- Contributes to the planning and execution of projects related to the expansion of computing infrastructure
- Oversees the daily operations of all SOE computer labs
- Ensures reliability, availability, and performance of computing resources, including servers, workstations, and networking equipment
- Manages the cluster at OGERO data center (the HPC Systems -High Performance Computing 4 Lebanon, CERN) and the SOE cluster
- Implements and enforces policies and procedures for lab usage, ensuring consistency and standardization across multiple labs and campuses
- Monitors and evaluates the performance of the computer labs, adjusting as necessary to maintain high service standards
- Coordinates the allocation of lab resources, including PCs, servers, and peripherals, to ensure efficient utilization
- Manages the scheduling of lab usage to prevent overcrowding and under-utilization
- Ensures equitable distribution of resources among high and low-enrollment programs
- Collaborates with the Infrastructure, Systems, and HPC teams to maintain and upgrade lab facilities
- Oversees the deployment and maintenance of hardware and software systems in the labs
- Ensures the security and integrity of lab data and infrastructure
- Ensures high-quality support services for students, faculty, and staff using the computer labs
- Addresses and resolves technical issues and user inquiries promptly
- Gathers feedback from users to continuously improve lab services
- Maintains the Computer Centers as a safe study space by intervening/reporting harassments and/or safety hazards of any kind according to established protocols
- Provides backup support when needed, to ensure continuity of operations
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience, preferably in an academic environment out of which, 4 years are in a supervisory role
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent knowledge of computer hardware, software, servers and HPCs
- Advanced knowledge in Linux/Citrix/Windows Server
- Proven ability to manage resources efficiently and effectively
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work within a diversified team and foster a spirit of cooperation and integrity
