Engineering Lab Supervisor
The School of Engineering / Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is currently looking for an Engineering Lab Supervisor reporting to the Chair of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. This is a central role that is primarily based on the Byblos campus, with occasional commuting to the Beirut campus.Role Summary
The Engineering Lab Supervisor is responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of the engineering laboratories. This includes organizing and preparing lab sessions, maintaining equipment and facilities, ensuring safety and compliance standards, supporting teaching and research activities, and providing technical assistance to students and faculty. The supervisor ensures that lab operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently across all assigned laboratories.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Organizes and directs daily lab activities including setting up stations, calibrating instruments, and ensuring readiness before each lab session
- Performs routine pre‑testing of lab equipment to validate accuracy and proper functionality
- Coordinates with lab instructors, faculty and department chairperson to ensure smooth delivery of lab sessions
- Supports lab instructors in delivering lab sessions and suggests improvements to enhance students’ experience
- Provides technical support to faculty and students during lab sessions, projects, and research activities
- Troubleshoots equipment issues and liaises with vendors/maintenance teams when required
- Maintains lab equipment, instruments, and tools
- Assists the department chairperson in planning for equipment upgrades and replacements
- Prepares requisition orders and develops specifications in consultation with faculty members
- Maintains up‑to‑date documentation of operational manuals and warranties
- Maintains and updates an accurate inventory of lab equipment and supplies
- Ensures adequate supplies for the uninterrupted operation of labs
- Oversees implementation of safety procedures and ensures compliance with university and regulatory safety standards
- Responds to and reports safety incidents, hazards, or misconduct according to established protocols
- Assists in lab‑related academic assessment activities
- Supports the School of Engineering summer camp and other student orientation and outreach activities
- Oversees lab tours for visiting students and industry partners
- Stays up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the role
- Provides backup support across other engineering labs when needed to ensure continuity
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned by the direct supervisor
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Computer, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably including laboratory supervision or technical engineering roles
- Experience with engineering lab equipment, measurement tools, software, and instrumentation
- Advanced computer skills
- Strong communication skills in English
- Excellent organizational, troubleshooting, and multitasking abilities
- Sound analytical thinking, attention to detail, and critical judgment
Work Schedule
This position follows a standard work schedule (Monday to Friday), with possible/occasional attendance after hours and/or during weekends to ensure business continuity or to support events.
