The Facilities Management Department is currently looking for an Environmental, Health and Safety Engineer (EHS Engineer) reporting to the EHS Manager. This is a central position that requires presence on both Beirut and Byblos campuses.Role Summary
The EHS Engineer is primarily responsible for conducting safety audits for LAU buildings and grounds and following up on safety systems preventive maintenance program during LAU events.
He/She assists the EHS Manager in coordinating and conducting safety trainings, fire drills, fire strategies re-testing, and in different safety or environmental health-related tasks.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts ongoing safety tours for buildings, follows up on adjustments, and generates recommendations reports
- Implements Life & Fire Safety standards in new projects throughout design and commissioning phases
- Performs ongoing safety tours of laboratories, workshops, and elevators, ensuring they are up to international codes & standards, and follows-up on findings
- Prepares or updates required safety signage in LAU buildings/grounds (evacuation maps, labs safety signs, workshops signs, elevators signs…)
- Implements mitigation measures related to hazardous risks on campus
- Follows up on ground safety in Capital & Renovation Projects (provides needed signs, bollards…)
- Assists the EHS manager in implementing a comprehensive safety training plan to LAU constituents including fire drills
- Conducts buildings, laboratories, workshops, and emergency phones safety audits
- Assists the EHS manager in managing AED program and re-testing of Fire Strategies
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Safety, Mechanical, Electrical or any other related field)
- Minimum 6 years of experience, 3 of which are in a similar capacity
- Advanced command of English and Arabic
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
- Good knowledge of Safety Standards (NFPA) and Occupations Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)
- Ability to work within a diversified team in a positive spirit
- Advanced communication and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines
