Fabrication Lab Technician - Beirut
The School of Architecture and Design / Foundation Program is currently looking for a Fabrication Lab Technician reporting to the Foundation Program Director. This position is based on Beirut Campus.Role Summary
The Fabrication Lab Technician is responsible for providing hands‑on technical assistance to faculty and students in the execution of design and fine arts projects. The role involves operating the wood and metal workshops and ensuring safe and effective use of tools and machinery.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Handles the daily operations of the wood and metal workshops, ensuring a safe, organized, and efficient workspace
- Provides continuous supervision for students using the workshop and ensures adherence to all safety rules and operational protocols
- Assists students with project execution, offering technical guidance on woodworking, metalworking, laser cutting, and other fabrication processes
- Conducts mandatory safety orientations and training sessions for all students before granting workshop access
- Demonstrates the proper and safe use of all machinery, tools, and software essential to fabrication workflows
- Enforces university safety standards
- Maintains all workshop equipment in optimal working condition, including performing routine inspections, basic repairs, and coordinating major maintenance when needed
- Updates workshop inventories (tools, consumables, materials) and ensures adequate stock levels to support academic projects
- Provides backup support for lab staff when needed to ensure continuity of operations
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as required by the direct supervisor
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Technical Baccalaureate Level (BT3) with relevant specialization
- Minimum 3 years of related experience
- Knowledge of shop tools, materials, methods and techniques
- Knowledge of welding, brazing, forging, cutting, soldering, wood working
- Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Ability to use a wide variety of power and mechanical tools
- Computer literacy and Knowledge of 3D modeling is a plus
- Good interpersonal and communication skills in English and Arabic
- Strong training skills
- Flexibility, maturity, and ability to interact effectively with faculty, students & staff
Working Conditions
Physical demands: The role involves exposure to noise, dust, fumes, heat, and various fabrication materials. It requires standing for extended periods, lifting and moving materials or equipment, using hand and power tools with precision, and performing tasks that involve bending, reaching, and varied physical postures. Frequent interaction with students in an active workshop setting requiring constant supervision and attention to safety.
Work Schedule: The regular schedule is Monday to Saturday. This role is subject to modification and extended hours to accommodate lab needs after hours and on weekends, especially during final weeks of the term, peak academic project periods or studio deadlines
