IT Infrastructure Technician
The Information Technology Department / IT Infrastructure Officer is currently looking for an IT Infrastructure Technician, reporting to the Director of IT Infrastructure. This is a central position that is primarily based on the Beirut campus, with occasional commuting to the Byblos campus and LAU affiliated sites.Role Summary
The IT Infrastructure Technician is primarily responsible for the maintenance of the physical voice, data and video network infrastructures on campus and LAU Affiliated sites.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Installs, terminates and maintains the structured cabling (UTP, Fiber Optics, Coaxial…) used for voice, video and data networks
- Installs, connects and maintains telephone sets and faxes, as well as PCs, TVs and video conferencing equipment
- Troubleshoots physical cable plant problems and coordinates with the Operations & Maintenance office and external contractors to rectify issues
- Installs equipment inside server and telecom cabinets
- Assists in troubleshooting and isolation of basic problems related to switches, and in basic network operation
- Installs wireless access points and assists in basic wireless operations
- Assists in basic CISCO Call Manager operations
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on all telecom rooms and data centers
- Monitors MPT telephone lines and UPS availability; conducts minor repairs of telecom equipment
- Assists in documenting changes of the cable plant and inventory of the switches and phones
- Sets up and supports smart classroom equipment
- Conducts minor repairs of IT infrastructure equipment
- Ensures that user incidents and service requests are logged and tracked
- Stays up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the role
- Acts as backup support for office staff as needed to ensure continuity of operations
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Technical Baccalaureate Level (BT3) in electronics, computers, or a related field; TS is a plus
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
- Thorough knowledge of latest technology trends in telecommunications and network equipment and software
- Knowledge of applicable network cabling industry standards
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Skilled in analyzing systems and specifications
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
Working Conditions
Physical demands: Physically fit to perform above duties. Ability to work effectively in environments that may include dust, noise, and varying conditions.
Work Schedule: The regular working days are Monday through Saturday, with flexibility to attend occasionally when needed at night, on holidays, and/or weekends to ensure 24/7 coverage of university facilities, to attend to emergencies and/or to provide backup during staff absences.
