The Strategic Communications Department (Stratcom) / Digital Communications Office is looking for a Social Media Specialist reporting to Director of Digital Communications. This position is based on Beirut campus with occasional commuting to Byblos campus.Role Summary
The Social Media Specialist is primarily responsible for content creation and publishing on official LAU social media channels. Working closely with other members of the digital communications team, the specialist will ensure excellent standards and high levels of audience engagement by crafting compelling, reputation-building, on-brand communications.
The specialist will create content for organic messaging as well as for paid campaigns. The content will respond to strategies and calendars set by the Strategic Communications team, often in consultation/collaboration with other university schools and departments. It will be tailored for each medium used, so the specialist is expected to know the possibilities of each medium in addition to possessing the skills to create text, images, video, animation, audio, data visualizations, and whatever other type of content may be needed in the future as platforms evolve. While the content will vary greatly in type/form, it should carry the voice of the university consistently across channels.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Executes social media content calendar, campaigns and day-to-day activities
- Creates, curates, and manages all published content (photos, videos, text, etc.)
- Contributes to the development of social media strategies; helps update plans on a regular basis, and reports regularly on results
- Monitors user comments, responds as per campaign plans, and creates conversations, under supervision
- Watches analytics to assess performance
- Ensures implementation of the university’s social media policies and guidelines
- Produces content featuring students, faculty members, alumni, and members of the administration
- Attends events for immediate and/or post-event coverage, including occasional live streaming
- Advices other team members on latest content trends; shares relevant examples
- Archives all content produced
- Provides weekly and/or monthly reports as assigned
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, communication arts, journalism, graphic design, advertising, marketing, public relations, or any related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar capacity
- Excellent English-language skills; full command of the language and demonstrated experience writing online news and/or social media content for specific audiences
- Technology savvy; ability to find answers and resources; proficiency in generative AI
- Experience in creating and sourcing appropriate imagery
- Resourcefulness in creating appropriate content (text, photo, video)
- Familiarity with basic photography and graphic design
- Self-motivation to seek and learn new trends, skills, practices
- Knowledge of integrated communications, digital marketing, digital communications, and digital trends
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Strong commitment to deadlines
Work Schedule
The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. However, due to the nature of the job, and/or to provide backup during staff absence, attendance may be required for late hours and during weekends/ holidays on both campuses.
